3F stands for “Functional Fragrance Formulation”. The 3F Biofragrance technologies is a suite of “functional fragrances” specifically designed for addition to consumer products such as cosmetics, detergents, and air fresheners to boost the products effectiveness or add additional protective properties. These properties include insect protection, antimicrobial, preservative, synergistic and healing capabilities.
The 3F Biofragrance is the product of a 3 year research project conducted on over 270 rare orchid scents from across the globe. The project yielded a vast library of compounds that cover wide variety of biological activities. These compounds, once cataloged and identified can be used to create unique and numerous bioactive formulas that mimic a pleasant smell.
- The 3F Antimicrobial formula was created as the solution to improving efficacy of products for controlling an ever increasing number of resistant pathogenic microbial agents while also limiting the exposure and concentration of potentially dangerous antimicrobial compounds.
- The 3F Antimicrobial formula has been tested and proven effective against a number of resistant pathogenic bacterial microorganisms such as E.coli, MRSA, Staph, C.albicans, Tuberculosis as well as numerous strains of problematic viruses including rhinovirus, influenza and SARS-COV2.
- 3F Antimicrobial has proven to be synergistic with ethyl alcohol which translates into lower levels of alcohol required for formulation while also increasing the effectiveness against target microorganisms thus making a cleaner, safer and more effective sanitizer.
- Discovered in 1953, DEET (N,N-Diethyl-3-Methylbenzamide) is considered the best chemicals for protecting humans from mosquito borne diseases such as Malaria, West Nile Virus, Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya. However, compliance of use for DEET is not has high as health officials would like, especially among women and children do to several key factors such as perceived toxicity, greasy feel, chemical smell, and the chemicals ability to destroy or degrade sensitive materials.
- Prevention and mitigation of mosquito borne diseases are one of the highest global health priorities. This is in part caused by a ever growing population within tropical regions as well as am increasingly warmer and wetter planet. Current sales of DEET is $4.5B with an expected compound growth rate of 10.5% annually.
- The 3F DEET Booster is designed to work synergistically to increase effectiveness of insect repellency while also allowing for the reduction of DEET required within the formula. 3F DEET Booster improves overall protection and creates a superior product that has a pleasant and enjoyable scent with a much better feel to the skin.
- What’s commonly known to science is that Orchids are pollinated by a single species species of insect, hence the unique shape of each orchid flower. What’s not commonly known is that the male mosquito is also a very important and prolific pollinator in the plant kingdom as well. Our team studied the fragrances from flowers, in particular the orchids, to better understand the unique biochemical interplay between fragrance components of the orchids and attraction or repellency effects that the scents have on mosquitoes.
- The research concluded with the identification of key compounds within the orchid’s scent that have the ability to interact or block the mosquito’s ability to detect humans as prey. We have since worked with these compounds to create functional scents that can block these receptors and make humans invisible to mosquitoes as prey.
- The 3F technology is designed for addition to a wide variety of consumer products such as laundry detergents, shampoos, soaps, and lotions for everyday use.
- By understanding the secrets imbedded within orchid fragrance will allow us to expand the protective capabilities and safety of consumer products against mosquito born diseases.
